Location: Colombia (Remote/On-site as applicable)
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: $32,784 USD annually (paid in Colombian Pesos) + statutory benefits
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Buyer with deep knowledge of the floral industry to lead sourcing and procurement of fresh-cut flowers. This role is critical in ensuring consistent product availability, quality standards, and competitive pricing, while managing relationships with farms and suppliers in a fast-paced, perishable goods environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure fresh-cut flowers from farms and suppliers, primarily across Colombia and other key growing regions
- Build and maintain strong relationships with growers, exporters, and vendors
- Negotiate pricing, volumes, and programs aligned with seasonal demand and market conditions
- Monitor crop availability, production cycles, and market trends to anticipate supply fluctuations
- Coordinate closely with logistics and operations teams to ensure timely harvest, shipping, and delivery
- Manage purchase orders and ensure alignment with sales forecasts and customer requirements
- Oversee quality standards, ensuring products meet specifications before shipment
- Work cross-functionally with sales teams to support key accounts, holiday programs (e.g., Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day), and promotional planning
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining product quality and supplier reliability
- Track supplier performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, International Trade, Agribusiness, Supply Chain, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing or procurement within the floral industry
- Strong understanding of fresh-cut flowers, varieties, grades, post-harvest handling, and cold chain logistics
- Proven experience working directly with farms and/or exporters
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Ability to manage high-pressure seasonal peaks and tight timelines
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems
- Fluent in Spanish and strong English communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience managing holiday programs (Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc.)
- Knowledge of international logistics, air freight, and import/export processes
- Established network within Colombian flower farms and suppliers
- Strong planning and forecasting capabilities
