POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to Operations & Logistics management, the Transportation Manager will drive value for the Company by controlling costs and delivering service excellence for our customers. This includes managing and building strong relationships with carriers and our logistics staff and managing our 3rd party transportation and logistics providers.

The ideal candidate will have served in corporate transportation roles with budgetary responsibilities, and has Transportation Management System (TMS), Warehousing, and Import/Export experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the transportation business unit, including customer and carrier relations, and all internal operational functions.
  • Develop route planning, resource allocation and management. Develop initiatives to optimize and lower costs of transportation services offered. Control transportation costs, adhering to budget.
  • Negotiate and build strong partnerships with 3rd party transportation and logistics providers leveraging our spend to drive cost efficiencies, and high service levels.
  • Directly manage logistics staff. Planning, assigning, and directing work. Coach, train, mentor, and supervise in areas relating to transportation operations while appraising performance. Addressing and resolving problems as they arise.
  • Develop company transportation policies, controlling compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Lead transportation strategic and tactical planning. Develop strategy based on changing business needs to optimize supply chain activities.
  • Control overall performance of transportation services to increase efficiency and maximize performance and value. Control scheduling, dispatching and transportation of company shipments.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, mentoring shipping associates, clerks, and drivers, with emphasis on productivity, efficiency, and quality of service.
  • Delegate authority and responsibility to team with supervision, accountability, and review.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and customer satisfaction opportunities
  • Develop and periodically review key performance indicators and scorecards.
  • Manage transportation projects, serving as liaison between planning, management, project team, and line management.
  • Manage and maintain contact and communications with internal and external “client/customers” to achieve, as applicable, best value and satisfaction. Work collaboratively and foster strong work relationships within the organization. Assist other departments with coordination of shipments.
  • Keep current with the latest transportation industry trends, technology, and systems.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ experience in Transportation Manager, or similar role.
  • Solid knowledge of supply-chain management and transportation systems.
  • Proficient computer skills especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power point as well as the essential TMS systems
